From building businesses to studying human judgment

Before working on AI systems, I worked on decisions much closer to the shop floor. I co-founded EntreMarketing, a consultancy for small enterprises, and later co-founded and operated an independent Korean food business. My work ranged from product-page planning and rebranding to customer service, menu development, pricing, and margin analysis. These were different ways of engaging with the same practical concern: understanding what matters to a customer while working within the constraints of a business.

Data science and product work gave me another way to approach decision problems. As project manager on the five-person STEEL CUT team, I helped organize a scrap-price forecasting dashboard around an overview, forecasts, supporting data, and explanatory help. Looking back, the connection to my current interests is in that reading sequence: a prediction is a starting point, and the information around it helps a person decide how to use it.

Today, I bring this practical background to Human-Centered AI research. In organizational mentoring, I study how experience can retain the context needed for reuse. In BOND, I am developing a conceptual approach to keeping differing customer perspectives visible. The question connecting these directions is what someone needs to see before deciding that an answer applies to their situation. I build and study artifacts that make those grounds for judgment easier to inspect.
